Philosophy
‘Musique de la Vie et de la Terre’ – Music of Life, Music of Land Creating and developing musical knowledge for the advancement of humanity and harmony of society.

The Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music, Bangkok, Thailand, is a unique conservatory of music with a contemporary approach to classical music. The institute was initiated in 2007 as a royal project celebrating the occasion of the 84th birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra. The Princess graciously gave her name to the new endeavor, and thus the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music, or PGVIM, was born.

Following Her Royal Highness’s vision to develop an international standard for Thai musicians, as well as to educate new audiences, the institute aims to create platforms through its Education Populaire and Audience Development Projects so that students, musicians, professionals, and general audiences can discuss their musical experiences, engage in dialogues, and share their love of music together.

The institute aims to be a leading international conservatory of music, with the following mission: 1) to support young musicians in their pursuit of excellence, 2) to promote a better understanding of music and expand the role of music within society, and 3) to develop new knowledge in music through research. Our creatively designed curriculum and Music for Society programs provide opportunities for students and the general public to learn the skills of music-making while developing their understanding of music as a tool for the advancement of humankind and for a harmonious society, within a contemporary and global context.

Bachelor Music Program
Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music o ers a 4 year full-time program of study that leads to a Bachelor of Music. The program lays a foundation for a lifetime development in music for students. The program aims to produce graduates who have a profound understanding of the art of music-making and are able to creatively apply their musical knowledge to a ect society in positive ways. The Bachelor of Music Program at the Institute, approved by the O ce of Higher Education, Thailand, has a minimum of 132 credits over its course of 4 years and is divided into 4 modules of study: Artistic Practices, Contextual Studies, Electives, and General Education.

1. Artistic Practices: aims to develop students in the area of performance through subjects such as instrumental private lessons (Major Skills), Chamber Music, Practice Lab, and Performing Musicianship.

2.Contextual Studies: the emphasis here is on research. Courses involve Project-based activities that help students produce, integrate, and share musical knowledge. Courses include Recital Project, Research Methodology, and Education Populaire.

3. Electives: Students choose from a variety of subjects that relate to their musical interests and practices. Students can choose among subjects including Performance Practices, Composition, Interpretation through Improvisation, Performing with Technology, Music and Digital Media, Theory and Concepts in Musicology, World Music, and Pedagogy.

4. General Education: These courses are specially design for the conservatory students, with its core focus on music. The General Education course at PGVIM relate to important areas of contemporary context, and involve subjects in
Humanities, Social Sciences, Language and the Sciences. Subjects include Classical Music in a Global Context, Music and Social Harmony, ASEAN Musical Identities, Music and Innovation, and Integrated Sciences for Well-Being, for instance.

Admission – Academic Year 2017 – 2018
Admission to the Bachelor of Music program is open for the following instruments: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Harp, Guitar, Piano, and Voice.

Eligibility
1. Completion of secondary education (equivalent to Thai Matthayom 6) or completing their secondary education in the year of application.
2. Demonstration of excellent in musical performance.
3. Excellent knowledge of Music Theory, Musicianship, and Music History.
